Punjabi Lekhak Sabha Chandigarh on Tuesday organised a well-attended literary event at Chandigarh Press Club where noted Punjabi lyricist, singer, writer and actor Raj Kakra’s debut book “Painda: Ishq-e-Majazi Ton Ishq-e-Haqiqi Da” was formally released.
Raj Kakra is widely known for his socially conscious writing and thought-provoking songs dealing with Punjab’s socio-political and cultural realities. Over the years, several leading Punjabi and Indian singers, including Amrinder Gill, Diljit Dosanjh, Gippy Grewal, Nachhatar Gill, Kailash Kher, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Master Saleem, Kamal Khan and many others, have sung songs penned by him. Kakra has also acted in five Punjabi films.
Conducting the stage proceedings, Punjabi Lekhak Sabha General Secretary Bhupinder Singh Malik said Raj Kakra’s poetry possessed the strength to articulate social consciousness in a deeply poetic manner.
Welcoming the guests, Sabha President Deepak Sharma Chanarthal said Kakra’s writing represented truth and reflected the cultural and moral values deeply rooted in Punjab’s ethos.
The book release ceremony was attended by several prominent personalities, including folk singer Bai Hardeep, senior journalists Tarlochan Singh and Jagtar Bhullar, Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad, Harjit Grewal, film actor Darshan Aulakh, Hari Om Jalota, and Punjabi singer Balkar Sidhu among others.
Speaking on the occasion, senior journalist Jagtar Bhullar remarked that quality writing ultimately finds its admirers. Harjit Grewal appreciated the seriousness and depth in Raj Kakra’s personality, while Manjit Singh observed that the writer shared a profound bond with words.
Senior journalist Tarlochan Singh described Raj Kakra as a true son of the Punjabi mother tongue, while Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad praised his deep understanding of Sikh philosophy.
Lyricist Bhatti Bhariwala said Raj Kakra’s name was counted among the finest Punjabi lyricists of contemporary times. Journalist Hardeep Kaur Virk remarked that clean and meaningful singing always enjoys a long life.
Addressing the gathering, Raj Kakra said his literary and artistic journey had passed through many phases and eventually transformed from worldly love to spiritual love, which inspired the theme of the book.
Expressing gratitude at the conclusion of the event, Bai Hardeep said Raj Kakra was a matter of great pride for Punjab and would continue contributing creatively through his writing in the coming years.
