Senior Congress leader and Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa criticized the central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the country’s current economic situation. He said that the warnings issued much earlier by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding the impending economic crisis, rising unemployment, and inflation have now proven to be completely accurate.
Randhawa said that in the last 12 years, Prime Minister Modi has brought the country to a stage where people are being told what to buy and what not to buy, where to go and where not to go.
He added that the Prime Minister should first apply these measures to himself. He suggested reducing the number of vehicles in political convoys and cutting down or stopping foreign tours. He demanded that the Prime Minister immediately convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the issue and take the nation into confidence by informing citizens about the actual circumstances.
Randhawa stated that continuously rising inflation, economic uncertainty, and global instability have broken the back of ordinary citizens.
He said that today the middle class, farmers, traders, and youth are all under economic pressure, while the central government remains busy with publicity and event management. According to him, the government shifts responsibility onto the public every time in order to avoid accountability. He described this as evidence of the central government’s failure.
He further said that the country needs accountability, honest economic planning, and a foreign policy based on national interests, rather than grand events and politics of showmanship. He emphasized that strengthening the economy requires job creation, investment, and support for industry and agriculture.
However, due to current policies, economic inequality continues to increase. Randhawa said that the Congress Party will continue to raise public issues and hold the central government accountable to secure the country’s economic future.
