Punjab Finance and Planning Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema on Tuesday issued strict directions to all Deputy Commissioners across the state to accelerate the implementation of the Rangla Punjab Vikas Scheme.
In a high-level review meeting, the Finance Minister ordered the immediate uploading of verified bills and Utilization Certificates (UCs) for Phase 1 works onto the designated portal, while further instructing officials to wind up any remaining first-phase development works at the earliest.
The meeting, which saw active participation from Chief Secretary Punjab KAP Sinha and Additional Chief Secretary Jaspreet Talwar, focused heavily on transition strategies for the next stage of the development initiative.
The Finance Minister reviewed the established timeline for commencing the second phase of the scheme, emphasizing that Deputy Commissioners must ensure all Phase 2 works are both initiated and completed strictly within the stipulated timeframes.
To maintain high accountability, the Finance Minister directed that two detailed reports be submitted by the end of May. The first report must explicitly detail the reasons behind any Phase 1 works that remain uncompleted by May 31, while the second report must outline a comprehensive plan and timeline for executing and finishing the upcoming Phase 2 development projects.
Underscoring the need for rigorous oversight, Chief Secretary KAP Sinha directed the Deputy Commissioners to conduct weekly reviews of the projects to boost the pace of execution on the ground. The review meeting was attended by the Deputy Commissioners via video conferencing, alongside senior officers from the concerned administrative departments.
