Jalandhar, April 23, 2026(Yes Punjab News)

As per government instructions, a Civil Defence Air Raid/Blackout mock exercise will be conducted on April 24, 2026, at 8:00 PM only at the Khalsa College for Women campus, Jalandhar.

Deputy Commissioner Varjeet Walia, while holding a meeting in this regard, assigned responsibilities to various departments for the mock drill. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Divya P and Commandant Jaskaran Singh were also specially present on the occasion.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that the mock exercise will be conducted only at the Khalsa College for Women campus. He said the drill will begin with an air raid “warning signal,” which will be sounded through sirens (rising and falling sound for 2 minutes).

Mr. Walia further stated that a blackout will be carried out at the college campus, during which all lights will be switched off. After completion of the mock exercise, an “all clear” signal (a continuous loud siren for 2 minutes) will be sounded, indicating the end of the exercise.

He added that during the mock exercise, various departments will rehearse fire-fighting operations, search and rescue activities, first aid and medical assistance, evacuation of injured persons, and traffic and crowd control measures in coordination.

He clarified that the blackout mock drill exercise has been planned only for Khalsa College for Women. No such drill will be conducted in any other city, village, or location in the district.

The Deputy Commissioner appealed to the general public not to panic, as this is a routine drill to assess civil defence preparedness. He said such exercises are conducted to ensure coordination among departments and to create awareness. He also urged people to remain cautious of any rumours.

The meeting was attended by Civil Surgeon Dr. Rajesh Garg, District Revenue Officer Navdeep Singh Bhogal, and officials from Police, Civil Defence, PSPCL, and other departments.
