Rajya Sabha Member and environmentalist Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal today visited village Mandala Chhanna, where stone pitching has been completed over more than 2,000 feet. Officials from various departments were also present during the visit. Residents of five nearby villages expressed their gratitude to Sant Seechewal, stating that due to his dedicated efforts, the sensitive stretch of the Dhussi Bund along the Sutlej River is being strengthened with stone work.
Sant Seechewal informed the local residents that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will soon visit to lay the foundation stone for the construction of a road along the Dhussi Bund. He added that he has written to the Secretary of the Mandi Board regarding this project, and the road will be constructed in three phases.
People from five villages—Jania, Jania Chahal, Meharajpur, Gatta Mundi Kasu, and Lakhu di Chhanna—had gathered at Mandala Chhanna during the visit. They also thanked Sant Seechewal for initiating the removal of accumulated silt beneath the Gidderpindi railway bridge, which had been posing a serious flood risk.
Panchayat members, sarpanches, numberdars, and farmer leaders said that in their lifetime, they had never seen such a large quantity of stone being brought to the Mand area to strengthen the embankment. They credited Sant Seechewal and the Punjab Government for making this possible.
The villagers further shared that Sant Seechewal had supported them during floods in 2008, 2019, and 2023. They also acknowledged his significant role in preventing severe erosion of the Dhussi Bund along the Sutlej River in 2025.
