Damandeep Kaur Gill, an undergraduate at the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor, exemplifies multidisciplinary leadership at the intersection of law, public health, and the arts. Pursuing dual degrees in International Studies and Public Health, with a minor in Vocal Performance, she is redefining student advocacy through scholarship, service, and creativity.
As a Civil Rights Fellow and Michigan Chapter Lead with UNITED SIKHS, Damandeep gained hands-on experience in advocacy, community organizing, and policy research. Her work focused on hate crimes and religious discrimination across the United States, supporting broader national civil rights initiatives.
She also assisted individuals facing discrimination by providing legal support and resource guidance, strengthening her communication skills, empathy, and understanding of how policy issues directly impact communities.
This year, we invite you to join the 2026 Sikh Summit & AHAA, where leaders like Damandeep continue shaping conversations on justice, health, and representation.
Her academic and advocacy work spans continents from co‑authoring global health research on postpartum hemorrhage in Ghana to founding Wayne for Women, an initiative addressing maternal and infant health disparities in Michigan. A recipient of the FLAS Fellowship, she speaks five languages and envisions her multilingualism as central to her future JD/PhD journey focused on public health in Punjab.
Beyond advocacy, Damandeep embraces the arts and entrepreneurship, launching mentorship programs with the University of Michigan Women’s Glee Club and co‑founding Rho Epsilon Iota, the nation’s first real estate fraternity. Her story is one of intersections—bridging disciplines, cultures, and communities to carry forward the values of service, justice, and empowerment.
