Jalandhar, May 18, 2026(Yes Punjab News)
Deputy Commissioner Varjeet Walia today said that with the objective of providing transparent, corruption-free and hassle-free administration to the citizens of the state, the Punjab Government under the slogan of “Clean Administration” has linked all important services with the online system.
The DC said that under this initiative, the embossing process of Power of Attorney (GPA/SPA) sent by Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) has also been made completely online through the ‘Service Plus Portal’ .
Mr. Walia said that the Government has fixed a clear fee structure for these services. He informed that a fee of Rs. 2,000 has been fixed for GPA, Rs. 1,000 for SPA and Rs. 1,600 for cancellation of documents.
He added that these fees can only be paid online and no cash payment is accepted in any government office.
He said that it has come to the notice of the administration that executors residing abroad and their authorized attorneys based in Jalandhar, due to lack of complete information regarding this simple online process, often become victims of middlemen, agents and brokers. These illegal elements are collecting huge amounts from applicants by falsely promising them hassle-free processing of their work, which is a direct violation of the transparent system established by the government.
He said that the system has been made so simple that any person can get his work done himself by uploading PDF files of original documents, paying the prescribed fee and booking an appointment as per convenience.
To completely eliminate the interference of middlemen and stop exploitation of the public, the Deputy Commissioner issued directions that no office employee or officer will entertain any document without the online process.
He also directed the SSP (Vigilance) to keep strict vigil on the illegal nexus of middlemen and brokers and to initiate immediate criminal action in case of any complaint of corruption.
The Deputy Commissioner also directed the District Nazir that all booth operators and typists working in the District Administrative Complex should be instructed in writing to charge only nominal fees for filling online forms. If any operator is found charging more than the prescribed fee or misleading the public, strict action will be taken against him immediately.
