Launching a sharp attack on the BJP-led Union Government over rising inflation, restrictions on citizens, and alleged manipulation of democratic processes, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday said the Narendra Modi-led Centre has pushed the country into an “undeclared lockdown” while hiding the true state of the economy from people.
Pointing out that the Centre artificially suppressed fuel prices until elections and is now burdening citizens immediately afterwards, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann demanded that the Union Government publicly disclose the actual status of India’s oil, gas, and gold reserves.
The Chief Minister asserted that the Punjab Government and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would ensure that neither genuine voters are deleted nor fake voters added during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Punjab.
Speaking on the Jaagat Jyot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said the law has fulfilled a long-pending demand of the Sikh sangat across the globe by ensuring strict punishment for beadbi of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

Interacting with media persons, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said the Narendra Modi-led Centre has effectively imposed an undeclared lockdown in the country. “The consequences of these restrictions are being borne by the entire nation while the Centre continues to hide the real condition of the economy from people,” he noted.
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said the Prime Minister should publicly disclose the country’s oil, gas, and gold reserves so that citizens can understand the actual condition of the nation. He stated, “The people of the country have the right to know the truth about the economic situation. The Centre should place complete information regarding oil, gas, and gold reserves before the public instead of concealing facts.”
Centre Using Global Situation to Justify Inflation Burden:CM Bhagwant Singh Mann
Targeting the Centre over fuel price hikes, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said the Central Government deliberately refrained from increasing fuel prices before Assembly elections in various states but immediately after the elections concluded, fuel prices were increased by ₹3 per litre and may rise further in the coming days. He stated, “Under the guise of war in Gulf countries, people are being crushed under the burden of inflation through repeated fuel price hikes.”
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann further remarked that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi cannot himself explain the country’s present economic condition and foreign policy, then he should ask his friend, US President Donald Trump, about it.
Restrictions on Citizens While PM Continues Foreign Visits:CM Bhagwant Singh Mann
Speaking about restrictions being imposed on citizens, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said it was ironic that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was advising people to avoid foreign travel while he himself was travelling abroad.
He said the country was passing through strange circumstances where “work from home” was being promoted but the real truth was being hidden from people. CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that people should not suffer inconvenience because of the whims and fancies of leaders and termed the situation unwarranted and undesirable.
AAP Volunteers Directed to Closely Monitor SIR Process in Punjab:CM Bhagwant Singh Mann
On the issue of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Punjab, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said the process would begin in the state from June 15 and the Aam Aadmi Party has directed all its volunteers to remain vigilant throughout the exercise. He asserted, “Neither genuine voters will be allowed to be removed nor fake voters will be allowed to be added in Punjab.”
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said it had become a tendency to delete names of genuine voters while adding fake voters to electoral rolls, but such incidents would not be allowed in Punjab. He stated that any attempt to muzzle democracy in the state would be strongly opposed and given a befitting reply.
BJP Having Seven Rajya Sabha MPs Despite Only Two MLAs Is Murder of Democracy: CM Bhagwant Singh Mann
Referring to seven Aam Aadmi Party MPs joining the BJP, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said the party had met the President and informed her about these anti-party activities while urging action against those involved. He said it was ironic that the BJP has only two MLAs in Punjab for the first time in history but has seven Rajya Sabha members from the state, which he described as the murder of democracy.
AAP Govt Committed to Protecting Sanctity of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji: CM Bhagwant Singh Mann
Speaking about the law enacted to prevent beadbi of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said the AAP Government has implemented such a stringent law that nobody would even dare to think of committing beadbi now.
“With the implementation of the Jaagat Jyot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026, a long-pending demand of Sikhs across the world has finally been fulfilled,” he added.
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said Sangat across the globe have wholeheartedly welcomed the law, which aims to ensure strict punishment for those involved in the heinous crime of beadbi.
He stated, “The sacred Gurbani seeks the welfare of all humanity and it is our collective duty to uphold its sanctity, dignity, and respect.” He further added that the Punjab Government is fully committed to implementing the law in its true letter and spirit.
