Students of the Department of Agricultural Journalism, Languages and Culture at Punjab Agricultural University stepped beyond classroom learning during an educational excursion to leading media institutions in Chandigarh.
The visit to The Tribune and News18 Network offered Master’s students of Journalism and Mass Communication an immersive understanding of both print and electronic media.
At The Tribune, students were introduced to the inner workings of a newspaper organization, from editorial planning to news selection and verification. Interactions with senior journalists shed light on the discipline, accuracy, and ethical responsibility that define credible reporting.
Mr. Karamveer of the Tribune engaged with the group, underscoring the role of young journalists in shaping public discourse and highlighting the need for integrity and continuous learning in a rapidly evolving media environment.
The exposure deepened at News18 Network, where students witnessed the fast-paced dynamics of television journalism. From live studio operations to production workflows, anchoring techniques, and video editing, the visit offered a close look at how news is created and delivered in real time.
Mr. Umesh emphasized the importance of clarity, dedication, and strong observational skills, encouraging students to stay informed and approach storytelling with responsibility. Ms. Jasmine shared insights from her professional journey, focusing on confidence, communication, and adaptability as essential traits for success in broadcast media.
The excursion was coordinated by Dr. Hina Goyal and Dr. Amanjyoti Kaur under the guidance of Dr. Sheetal Thapar, Head of the department. Faculty members highlighted the significance of such initiatives in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, preparing students for the demands of the media industry.
An informal interaction at the Chandigarh Press Club further enriched the experience, allowing students to engage in open discussions with working journalists on newsroom realities, career pathways, and professional networking.
