Amritsar, May 3, 2026(Yes Punjab News)

Congress MP from Amritsar, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, today held a significant meeting with the acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, to discuss the city’s development, environmental protection, and long-pending infrastructure projects.

During the meeting, major concerns including rising pollution in Amritsar, dirty drains, waste management, rapid urbanization, and stalled highway projects were discussed in detail. Speaking to mediapersons after the meeting, MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla said that Amritsar is not just a city but a center of faith for people across India and around the world. Thousands of devotees visit the holy city every day, making it essential to preserve its sanctity, cleanliness, and infrastructure.

Aujla expressed serious concern over pollution caused by dirty drains and sewage channels passing through the city. He said that dumping grounds and untreated waste are continuously affecting the environment and posing health risks to residents.

He added that increasing urbanization and shrinking land resources are disturbing the ecological balance, which needs urgent attention. He further stated that the continuous cutting of trees is also a matter of concern. To preserve the historical and religious identity of Amritsar, environmental protection must be given top priority. He emphasized that the administration, government, and social organizations must work together to address these issues.

MP Aujla appealed to Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Gargaj to support the revival of important highway and expressway projects connected to Amritsar that have remained stalled for a long time. He said these projects are important not only for development but also for the convenience of devotees visiting Sri Harmandir Sahib and other religious places. He added that better roads and infrastructure would boost trade, tourism, and local employment opportunities.

Aujla expressed hope that positive dialogue with farmers, village communities, and concerned organizations could help resolve the matter and restart the projects. Speaking on religious dignity and the cultural identity of the city, Gurjeet Singh Aujla said that maintaining the sanctity and communal harmony of Amritsar is everyone’s responsibility. He stated that matters related to religious institutions would be addressed in consultation with intellectuals and religious scholars to ensure harmony and respect for sentiments.

Responding to a question regarding a special religious gathering, Aujla clarified that he has no direct role in it and had not received any formal invitation. He said that his meeting was solely focused on discussing issues related to the city’s development, environment, and public welfare.
