Lord Mahavira’s teachings hold solutions for today’s Global Challenges: Punjab Guv Kataria

Chandigarh, 26 October, 2024 (Yes Punjab News)

Punjab Raj Bhavan today welcomed dignitaries, scholars, and community members at a national symposium titled “Global Peace and Development Through the Philosophy of Lord Mahavira” in honor of the 2550th Nirvana anniversary of Jainism’s 24th Tirthankara, Lord Mahavira. The event brought together thought leaders to explore the profound relevance of Mahavira’s teachings of nonviolence, compassion, and sustainability in addressing modern-day global challenges.

In his address, the Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh emphasized, “Lord Mahavira’s teachings on nonviolence and compassion hold solutions for today’s global challenges. He says that a family cannot thrive without peace. Peace is not merely an absence of conflict; it is a state that resides deep within us. It is not found in the body, but in the soul. This inner peace is essential for our well-being and our ability to coexist harmoniously with others.

The Governor extended heartfelt congratulations to the Jain community and Ahimsa Vishwa Bharati for their continuous efforts to propagate Mahavira’s philosophy worldwide. Highlighting the impact of Jain values, he added, “Indian culture’s message of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ – seeing the world as one family – is one that resonates across the globe today more than ever.”

Attendees at the symposium engaged in discussions on how Mahavira’s principles of Aparigraha (non-possession) and Anekantavada (pluralism) contribute to solutions for issues such as environmental preservation, social justice, and global peace. These values, deeply embedded in Indian philosophy, emphasize a balanced and compassionate approach toward nature and all living beings.

The Governor expressed pride in the establishment of India’s first World Peace Center in Gurugram, Delhi NCR, under the guidance of Acharya Lokesh Muni. This center is envisioned to amplify Mahavira’s message of peace, nonviolence, and Indian cultural values on a global scale.

The event concluded with the Governor urging everyone to incorporate these values into their lives and foster a society that thrives on mutual respect, sustainability, and collective well-being. The symposium marked an inspiring commemoration of Lord Mahavira’s enduring legacy, offering timeless guidance for a peaceful and harmonious world.
