India’s shooting sensation, Manu Bhaker, has shared her next big goal following her impressive performance at the Paris Olympics 2024. After a stellar showing, Manu has set her sights on winning a gold medal at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.
Reflecting on her journey, she mentioned that she hasn’t taken a break in over eight years and is currently enjoying some time off from shooting. Nonetheless, her focus remains clear: to bring home India’s second gold medal in shooting, following Abhinav Bindra’s historic win at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
“For me, the target will be the journey to gold at the Olympic Games, so the next goal is Los Angeles for me,” Manu stated at the Economic Times’ World Leaders Forum 2024. “However, I’m on a short break right now. It’s been eight and a half years since I took a break from my sport. So, at the moment, I’m thinking of taking a 3 to 4-month break and then getting back to training for LA 2028.”
Manu Bhaker’s Future Goals
Manu also mentioned that she plans to participate in upcoming competitions while enjoying her downtime by attending various events and engagements.
“All the competitions in between are just milestones; the main goal is LA 2028 for me. Right now, I’m also enjoying everything—getting to dress up and all,” she added with a laugh.
Manu made history by becoming the first Indian to win two Olympic medals in a single edition in the post-independence era, and the first-ever Indian woman athlete to achieve this feat. She secured bronze medals in both the women’s 10m air pistol event and the mixed team event of the same discipline. She narrowly missed out on a third medal, finishing fourth in the women’s 25m air pistol event.
Recently, Manu Bhaker took to her X account to congratulate Avani Lekhara for winning the gold medal in the 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 event at the Paris Paralympics. Lekhara’s victory, highlighted by a new Paralympic record of 249.7, adds to her remarkable achievements as she successfully defended her title from Tokyo 2020.
