After years of uncertainty and a prolonged battle over certification, Diljit Dosanjh’s much-awaited film Punjab 95 has finally been released under the new title Satluj. The film is now available for streaming on OTT platform ZEE5.
Originally titled Punjab 95, the film remained in limbo for a long time due to certification issues. The makers have now released it digitally as Satluj, allowing audiences across the world to finally watch the film inspired by the life and sacrifice of renowned human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra.
Diljit Dosanjh, who plays the lead role inspired by Jaswant Singh Khalra, said the martyr’s contribution to humanity was the primary reason he agreed to be part of the project.
“Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra ji’s martyrdom and his contribution to humanity were the primary reasons I chose to be a part of this film,” Diljit said.
He said the script deeply moved him because it was rooted in the lived experiences, struggles and sacrifices of real people.
“As an artiste, opportunities to be part of such meaningful stories are rare. Our film, Satluj, is a story of conviction, courage and humanity. Portraying this character has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my career. I’m grateful that audiences across the world can finally watch the film on ZEE5 and connect with this deeply personal story,” he added.
Directed by Honey Trehan, the film presents the story of one man’s relentless pursuit of truth amid fear, power and silence. It portrays a turbulent period in Punjab’s history and highlights the painful reality of thousands of unexplained disappearances and the devastating impact on families searching for justice.
Director Honey Trehan said the film was made with honesty and sensitivity from the very beginning.
“Satluj is not just the story of one individual; it is a tribute to the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity. Everyone associated with the film believed in the importance of telling this story inspired by the life of the great martyr Jaswant Singh,” he said.
The film follows Jaswant Singh Khalra’s determined campaign to uncover the truth behind the alleged disappearance of over 25,000 people, a pursuit that ultimately cost him his own life.
Produced by RSVP Movies and MacGuffin Pictures, the film also stars Arjun Rampal, Kanwaljit Singh, Suvinder Vicky and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan.
