The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has strongly condemned the controversial statement made by BJP leader and Union Minister Ravneet Bittu about farmer leaders. AAP spokesperson Neel Garg expressed surprise, asking if the BJP now intends to investigate how Punjab’s farmers are managing to feed themselves.
He said the BJP is pursuing politics aimed at harassing Punjab’s farmers, concocting false accusations and spreading rumors to defame them. He added that the farmers’ protest forced Prime Minister Modi to back down, and now Punjab’s farmers are being punished for it. Due to the pressure from Punjab’s farmers, Modi was compelled to repeal the farm laws.
Neel Garg said that the BJP’s cheap politics in the last two years has had one objective: to take revenge on Punjab’s farmers for the farmers’ protest. Bittu’s statement is part of this cheap politics. He further stated that the BJP is conspiring against Punjab, and Ravneet Bittu is the face of that conspiracy.
He also mentioned that when Prime Minister Narendra Modi repealed the farm laws, he had promised the farmers a legal guarantee of MSP (Minimum Support Price), but later backtracked on that promise. Garg pointed out that the central government deliberately slowed the lifting of old paddy stock to inconvenience farmers in the mandis.
Now, with the wheat sowing season approaching, the government is deliberately withholding the supply of DAP (fertilizer), creating further difficulties for the farmers. All of this is being done to make the entire system in Punjab collapse and push farmers to take to the streets.
Garg also accused Ravneet Bittu of making provocative statements to please the BJP’s central leadership. He is deliberately labeling farmers as thieves, dacoits, and looters. Garg stated that no one is stopping the investigation of farmers’ property, but there should also be an investigation into the people who defrauded the country’s public banks of thousands of crores and fled abroad. Who is assisting the few big industrialists who have monopolized the country’s public resources?
He also called for an investigation into how BJP leaders, who were once leading campaigns against corruption, are now welcoming the same corrupt people into their party and how all the corruption cases against them have been conveniently dismissed. Garg concluded by saying that before engaging in such cheap politics, BJP leaders should ensure a fair investigation into these matters before making baseless allegations against farmers.
