The Delhi Police Crime Branch’s West Range-I (WR-I) unit on Thursday achieved a major breakthrough by arresting the main accused and apprehending a juvenile in connection with a brutal stabbing murder reported at Anand Parbat police station earlier this month.
According to the Delhi Police, the accused were involved in the sensational murder of 21-year-old Sagar, who was allegedly stabbed multiple times on the intervening night of May 14 and 15 due to a previous rivalry. The case was registered under FIR No. 220/2026 under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Anand Parbat police station.
Police said the arrest of the accused has significantly strengthened the prosecution’s case and brought the investigation closer to a logical conclusion. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the complete sequence of events and identify the role of other associates, if any.
As per the Crime Branch, the main accused has been identified as Himanshu Tiwari, son of Rajkumar Tiwari, a resident of Baljeet Nagar in Patel Nagar, Delhi. A juvenile identified as CCL (child in conflict with the law) “S” was also apprehended in accordance with the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.
The case pertains to the murder of Sagar, who was allegedly attacked by the accused and their associates over an old rivalry. After committing the crime, the accused fled Delhi for Rajasthan in an attempt to evade arrest.
On the intervening night of May 25 and 26, Head Constable Naveen received specific information that the accused Tiwari, who had been absconding in the murder case, would arrive near West Side Mall in Rajouri Garden. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a dedicated team of WR-I, Crime Branch, led by Inspector Prakash Chand and comprising SI Amit Kumar, HCs Naveen and Vinod Kumar, and Constable Krishan, was formed under the close supervision of ACP Rajkumar.
The police team laid a trap near the West Side Mall and successfully apprehended Tiwari, aged 19 years. During the operation, the CCL was also apprehended as per legal provisions under the Juvenile Justice Act.
During sustained interrogation, Tiwari allegedly disclosed that he, along with his associates, had stabbed Sagar due to previous enmity. After the murder, they escaped to Rajasthan to avoid arrest. Police said the accused later returned to Delhi to collect money and meet an associate, following which the Crime Branch team successfully trapped and apprehended them.
According to police officials, Tiwari was studying when he allegedly fell into bad company at a young age. Due to previous rivalry and criminal associations, he became involved in the present murder case along with his associates. After the incident, he continuously changed locations and remained absconding before finally being arrested by the Crime Branch team.
Following the completion of legal formalities, Tiwari was formally arrested under Section 35.1(C) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Proceedings related to the juvenile were conducted in accordance with the Juvenile Justice Act.
Thereafter, both accused were produced before the court and the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) concerned and were subsequently handed over to the Anand Parbat police for further necessary legal action.(Agency)
