The School of Agriculture Sciences and Engineering (SASE), Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda, bid a heartfelt and vibrant farewell to its first graduating batch of B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture students during the grand event, “Rukhsat 2025.”
The occasion celebrated the successful culmination of the university’s inaugural undergraduate agriculture program and marked a proud milestone in its academic journey.
The ceremony was graced by Chief Guest S. Gurucharan Singh Mann, a progressive apiculturist and Managing Director of Tungwali Honeybee Industrial Co-operative Society Ltd. He was honoured for his exemplary contributions to diversified farming in Punjab.
Starting in 1992 with just seven bee boxes, he now manages over 1,800 beehives and actively practices fish farming, orchard development, and vegetable cultivation. His accolades include the NG Ranga Farmer Award (2011), the Parvasi Bharati Award, and recognition by former President Smt. Pratibha Patil.
In a generous philanthropic gesture, S. Mann donated 20 bee boxes, a honey extraction unit, and apiculture training tools worth approximately Rs. 1.75 lakh to strengthen the university’s Apiculture Unit. This significant contribution is expected to enhance practical training and foster entrepreneurial skills among students.
Dr. Gurinderpal Singh Brar, Registrar, MRSPTU, congratulated the outgoing students and expressed deep gratitude to S. Mann for enriching the university’s hands-on learning infrastructure.
The event was formally inaugurated by Prof. Jasvir Singh Tiwana, Head, SASE, who inspired students to uphold values of perseverance, innovation, and ethics as they move forward in their careers.
He also announced the launch of several new academic programs including B.Voc. Agriculture (open to Arts, Commerce, and Science streams), M.Sc. Agriculture (Agronomy), M.Sc. Horticulture (Fruit Science), and M.Sc. Horticulture (Vegetable Science).
He further revealed upcoming MoUs with industry partners to boost hands-on training and placement opportunities, thereby enhancing employability for students.
A vote of thanks was jointly delivered by Dr. Wineet Chawla, Dr. Kanwaljit Singh (Assistant Professors), and Er. Rajinder Singh Smagh (Senior Technician), appreciating the efforts of all those who contributed to the success of the event.
Key faculty members who played an instrumental role in planning and execution included Dr. Jaspal Singh Gill (Honorary Professor), Dr. Harpreet Singh, Dr. Sukhpreet Kaur, Dr. Lakshay, Ms. Simranpreet Kaur, Ms. Komalpuneet Kaur, Ms. Ramandeep Kaur, Mr. Amandeep Singh, and Mr. Raghveer Singh.
Esteemed guests from various departments of MRSPTU also graced the event. Notable among them were Prof. Dr. Harish Garg, Professor and Incharge Finance, Mr. Harjinder Singh Sidhu, Director, Public Relations, Er. Harjot Singh, Director, Training and Placement, Er. Vivek Kaundal, Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering, and Dr. Barinderjeet Singh Toor, Assistant Professor, Food Science & Technology.
The cultural segment of the evening featured vibrant performances, heartfelt reflections, and enthusiastic celebrations by students of both B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture and B.Tech. Agricultural Engineering programs. The outgoing students were recognized for their academic excellence, creativity, and campus involvement.
