Lovely Professional University (LPU) has made a defining mark on the Asian higher education landscape by emerging as the only Indian university to win at the Times Higher Education Awards Asia 2026. Emerging from a highly competitive pool of more than 500 of entries, LPU was shortlisted in four categories, placing it among Asia’s most distinguished universities.
LPU won the Research Project of the Year in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences category for its project titled “Kattunayakan Cosmologies and Epistemic Pluralism on Forest Ecosystem Services in Kerala, South India.”
The project focuses on the Kattunayakan community, a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group in Kerala, and highlights how their indigenous knowledge systems support sustainable forest practices and ecological resilience.
In addition to the winning project, LPU was also shortlisted in three other major categories, reflecting strong performance across areas. “Edu-Revolution: Redefining the Future of Learning at LPU,” under Teaching and Learning Strategy of the Year, presented a future focused academic approach, while “Inclusivity, Empowerment and Support for Students with Spinal Cord Injury at LPU,” shortlisted under Outstanding Support for Students, reflected its commitment to inclusive education.
LPU was also shortlisted for International Strategy of the Year, indicating its expanding global reach and partnerships.
Speaking on the achievement, Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Founder Chancellor of LPU, stated, “This recognition marks an important moment in LPU’s academic journey and reflects the clarity of direction with which the university is evolving.
The recent introduction of Edu-Revolution is rooted in our commitment to rethinking learning in a way that is more responsive, inclusive and future focused. Such acknowledgement at an international level affirms that our efforts are aligned with emerging global expectations and that we are progressing meaningfully on this path.”
The eighth edition of THE Awards Asia brought together leading institutions from across the continent. Each category saw only eight top universities shortlisted, making LPU’s across the board presence a rare accomplishment.
This year’s awards also marked a unique milestone, with 10 winners representing 10 different countries and territories across Asia, reflecting the growing competitiveness and global outlook of the region’s higher education ecosystem.
From pioneering research rooted in indigenous knowledge to redefining learning frameworks and strengthening student support systems, LPU continues to set benchmarks that resonate far beyond national boundaries.
With this recognition, LPU not only celebrates a significant milestone but also strengthens India’s presence on the global higher education map, demonstrating how institutions from the country are shaping impactful, future ready education ecosystems.
