Laljit Bhullar issues directives on animal carcasses disposal sites

Chandigarh, July 11, 2024 (Yes Punjab News)

Punjab Rural Development and Panchayat Minister S. Laljit Singh Bhullar today issued directives for managing animal carcass disposal sites (hadda-rodi) in villages across the state.

To address growing concerns about public health, sanitation and proper land utilization in rural areas, the Cabinet Minister directed the officials of all the regional offices of the Panchayat Department to conduct a thorough survey within one month and identify and mark designated sites in villages under their jurisdiction.

S. Laljit Singh Bhullar asked the officials to assess existing arrangements for carcass disposal sites in all state villages and submit a detailed report to the his office.

The Cabinet Minister noted that during his visits to various Punjab villages, it was observed that designated sites for animal carcass disposal sites were often left unused and are under encroachments.

Consequently, animal herders resort to disposing of carcasses near roadsides, canals and residential areas, which leading to foul odors causing discomfort to residents, potential spread of diseases and safety hazards from stray dogs attracted to these sites.

He said that for villages where existing animal carcass disposal sites have become a nuisance due to expanding populations, the department officials have been asked to collaborate with Gram Panchayats and Gram Sabhas to identify suitable non-cultivable lands for setting up of new disposal sites and send proposals for creating well-designed carcass disposal, besides exploring options for repurposing old animal carcass disposal sites for beneficial community use.

S. Bhullar maintained that proper management of animal carcass disposal is crucial for maintaining hygiene, public health and the overall quality of life in rural areas, which will ensure that our villages have designated, well-maintained sites for this necessary function, while also addressing the concerns of our rural residents.

The Cabinet Minister urged all concerned departments to cooperate fully in implementing these directives, underlining their importance in promoting cleanliness and public welfare in the villages of Punjab.
