Mumbai, July 22, 2026 (Yes Punjab News): ‘Dhurandhar’ actress Aayeshaa Khan was released on Wednesday after being detained by Mumbai Police while attempting to participate in a protest held in solidarity with students demanding education reforms.
Following her release, Aayeshaa took to Instagram to describe her experience, claiming she had been detained despite standing peacefully and without violating any law.
Sharing a series of posts and videos, she wrote:
“Dragged, detained for standing in peace. Asked questions to all the police people present there on why were we being detained? But no answer whatsoever! Sadak pe khade rehna kabse crime ho Gaya?”
Questioning the police action, she added:
“Today will be the most peaceful sleep of my life. I stood for what was right! Still in the police station asking the same question! Why am I detained? Which law did I break?”
Aayeshaa further alleged that instead of protecting citizens’ democratic rights, authorities acted against peaceful participants.
“Forget about one’s democratic right, and protecting it, instead you are harming your own citizens, for what? I see shame in some of their eyes, but they are bound by their duties, they know, we know, what’s right and what’s wrong.”
Expressing hope for change, she concluded:
“My stand is clear. We lack accountability, EVERYWHERE. I still have hope, we will see a better future.”
According to reports, Aayeshaa had reached the protest venue in Mumbai to express solidarity with students. She later shared videos from inside a police vehicle and from Worli Police Station, claiming she and her companions had neither raised slogans nor displayed placards before they were detained.
She has since been released.
The protest was organised in support of students demanding reforms in the education system following allegations of examination irregularities. There was no immediate official response from Mumbai Police to Aayeshaa Khan’s allegations.
