Address grievances of protesting Students, instituting fast track courts too little too late: Harsimrat Badal

Chandigarh, July 23, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal today appealed to the central government to address the grievances of the protesting students while asserting that instituting fast track courts was too little too late.

In a statement here, the Bathinda MP also called for accountability for the atrocities inflicted on the peacefully agitating students. “What we need are answers – from the Lt Governor of Delhi and the Police Commissioner as to why they authorized such brutality against the students. We need to know why no action has been taken against policemen who did not even spare our daughters”.

Mrs Harsimrat Badal also asked why the central government was choosing to impose a draconian law like the National Security Act (NSA) to empower the Delhi Police to detain people for three months without trial. “Such draconian measures are not conducive for a democracy”, she asserted.

The SAD leader also came down heavily on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for playing cheap politics on such a sensitive issue. She said Manish Sisodia, who was the propounder of the ‘Saam Daam Dand Bhed’ policy to win elections, lied through his teeth while asserting that any paper leak in the Punjab would have been met by instant dismissal. “The truth is that paper leaks are a constant in Punjab under AAP rule. Examination papers for posts of Naib Tehsildar, Agriculture Officers, Excise Inspectors and Pharmacy Officers have been either leaked or manipulated to select AAP favourites. Still no action has been taken against either the education minister or the health minister in these cases”, she added.

Exposing the AAP double speak, Mrs Badal said just like on the issue of paper leaks in which AAP was tainted in Punjab, it was also responsible for running a brutal and barbaric administration in the State. “AAP leaders are shedding crocodile tears for protesting students in Delhi, but they preside over a brutal regime in Punjab which believes in silencing dissent with ‘lathis’, tear gas and water cannons on an everyday basis. They have not spared anyone be it protesting farmers, employees, PSPCL lineman, MNREGA workers or women ‘safai sewaks’. Punjab is being run like a police State with preventive detentions, beating up of protesters and registration of false cases being done every other day to crush the voice of the people. This dictatorship won’t last for long. Punjabis will join hands to end it permanently in the 2027 assembly elections”, she added.
