Central University of Punjab Emerges as Group-Level Winner in 17th National Youth Parliament Competition

In a moment of great pride, the Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab) has emerged as the Group-Level Winner (Group VIII) in the 17th National Youth Parliament Competition (NYP) 2024–25 for Universities and Colleges. The University team was felicitated by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India, during the Prize Distribution Ceremony held at the GMC Balayogi Auditorium, Parliament Library Building, Parliament House Complex, New Delhi, on 7 July 2026.

The awards were presented by Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Congratulating the students on their outstanding achievement, Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Punjab, lauded the team’s dedication, hard work, and exemplary performance. He remarked that the achievement reflects the University’s commitment to nurturing leadership, democratic values, and effective communication skills among students.

Prof. (Dr.) Puneet Pathak, Coordinator of the 17th National Youth Parliament Competition at CU Punjab, who accompanied the team to New Delhi, highlighted that the University has consistently excelled in the competition, having also been crowned National Champions in the 15th and 16th editions of the National Youth Parliament Competition.

The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has been organizing the National Youth Parliament Competition for nearly three decades with the objective of familiarizing young citizens with the functioning of parliamentary democracy and legislative procedures. The competition aims to instil democratic values such as self-discipline, respect for diverse opinions, and constructive expression of ideas. It also provides students with practical exposure to parliamentary traditions, debate and discussion techniques, leadership, self-confidence, and public speaking.

In the 17th edition of the competition, 51 universities and colleges from across the country participated. Demonstrating exceptional parliamentary debating skills, the Central University of Punjab secured the first position in Group VIII. The Ministry also recognized the eight best speakers from the University team for their outstanding performances. The awardees are:

  • Deep Dhara
  • Aman Tiwari
  • Kumar Abhinav
  • Neha Mishra
  • Aaradhana
  • Anubhav Pratap Singh

As part of the programme, the students also had the opportunity to visit the New and Old Parliament Buildings, witness the functioning of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, and explore the historic Central Hall of Parliament, enriching their understanding of India’s parliamentary democracy.
