Senior Congress leader and MLA Pargat Singh has described the treatment being meted out to Sikh devotees in Uttarakhand as extremely unfortunate and concerning.
He said that the incidents involving Sikhs in Uttarakhand are a result of the atmosphere of hatred and division that the BJP is creating across the country. He stated that it is the responsibility of the Uttarakhand government and administration to ensure equal treatment for all citizens and devotees and to guarantee their safety.
He appealed to the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand to refrain from actions that promote discrimination and hatred and to ensure fair and equal action in accordance with the law. Targeting any community is against democratic values and the spirit of the Constitution.
He said that the Sikh community has always placed the unity, integrity, and spirit of service to the nation above everything else. Therefore, discriminatory treatment of devotees in any state cannot be accepted.
Pargat Singh said that the BJP has never had any genuine concern for Punjab and Punjabis. The people of Punjab understand the BJP’s policies and its double standards very well. He added that it is unfortunate that during the visit of the BJP’s national president, some Punjabi leaders appear willing to ignore Punjab’s interests and even their own ideology in their desire to gain power and positions.
He said that the people of Punjab recognize such opportunistic leaders as well as the BJP’s divisive politics. The country does not need hatred; it needs politics based on brotherhood, equality, and mutual respect.
