DSGMC delegation meets Uttarakhand Chief Minister Over Karnaprayag Incident

Dehradun, June 23, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

A high-level delegation led by Harmeet Singh Kalka, President of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee , met Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami here today and brought to his attention the concerns of the sikh community regarding the incident that took place at Karnaprayag on June 16 and the subsequent action taken by the Chamoli Police.

The delegation included DSGMC General Secretary Jagdeep Singh Kahlon, Bhupinder Singh Bhullar, Sukhinder Singh, and Inderjit Singh.

Speaking after the meeting, Harmeet Singh Kalka said that the delegation informed the Chief Minister about the deep resentment prevailing within the Sikh community over the actions of the Chamoli police.

He stated that if there had been any dispute or altercation between two parties, legal action should have been impartial and based on the facts presented by both sides. However, there is a perception that the action taken in this case was one-sided, leading to widespread anger among sikhs.

Kalka alleged that the sikh youths taken into custody were reportedly mistreated and produced before the court without their turbans, which hurt the religious sentiments of the sikh community. He stressed that it is essential for the truth to come out and for accountability to be fixed on those responsible.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami assured the delegation that the entire matter would be investigated at the Director General of Police level and that instructions had been issued to complete the inquiry within 15 days.

He informed the delegation that Haridwar SSP Navneet Singh Bhullar has been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the investigation. Kalka further stated that a cross-FIR has been registered in the matter to ensure a fair and impartial investigation of all aspects of the case.

The DSGMC delegation also demanded a fair inquiry into the conduct of those police officials whose role has come under question. In response, the Chief Minister assured them that appropriate action would be taken based on the findings that emerge during the investigation.

The Chief Minister further clarified that it is the responsibility of the Uttarakhand Government to ensure the safety, dignity, and religious freedom of every pilgrim and visitor to the state. He emphasized that no community should face discrimination and that statements or actions that may harm social harmony should be avoided.

Harmeet Singh Kalka stated that the meeting with the Chief Minister was held in a very cordial atmosphere. He said the delegation was satisfied with the assurances given by the Chief Minister and expressed hope that the inquiry would be completed with complete transparency and fairness.

He added that the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee remains committed to protecting the rights, dignity, and safety of Sikh pilgrims and will continue to pursue the matter until the truth comes to light.
