Chandigarh, June 12, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
The Punjab Government on Friday ordered the transfer and posting of two IPS officers with immediate effect, resulting in a swift change of leadership in the strategically important Border Range.
According to the orders, Harmanbir Singh Gill (SPS-2010) has been appointed as Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Border Range, replacing Vivek Sheel Soni (IPS-RR 2011).
Notably, Soni had assumed charge as DIG Border Range only on June 1, 2026, making his tenure in the post one of the shortest in recent months. Following the latest orders, he has been directed to report to the office of the Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab. His next posting is yet to be announced.
Prior to his new assignment, Harmanbir Singh Gill was serving as DIG, Punjab Armed Police (PAP), Jalandhar. The officer is expected to take charge of the Border Range shortly.
Gill’s latest posting carries added significance as he hails from the border belt and will now be serving in his home region. He is also the younger brother of former Congress MP Jasbir Singh Dimpa.
Before being posted as DIG PAP, Gill had served as DIG, Ferozepur Range. He was transferred from Ferozepur and posted to PAP Jalandhar on December 2, 2025.
The Border Range assumes considerable importance in Punjab’s policing framework due to its proximity to the international border and its role in tackling cross-border crime, smuggling and security-related challenges.
The government has directed the officers concerned to assume their new responsibilities with immediate effect.
