Senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa strongly criticized the Modi-led central government over the continuous rise in petrol and diesel prices. He said that the BJP government, which once claimed “Neither will I indulge in corruption, nor will I allow others to do so,” is today itself carrying out the biggest robbery of the public’s hard-earned money.
Randhawa stated that petrol prices have again been increased by ₹2.61 per litre and diesel by ₹2.71 per litre, even though government-owned oil companies — Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) — earned a combined net profit of nearly ₹19,470 crore in the fourth quarter of the financial year 2025–26 (January to March).
Despite this, instead of providing relief to the common people, the burden of inflation is continuously being increased.
He said that the country’s middle class is currently under the greatest economic pressure. Cooking gas, food items, travel, electricity, education, and every daily necessity are becoming more expensive. The common man is no longer dreaming about the future but is forced to calculate monthly expenses just to survive.
MP Randhawa alleged that the BJP government is not serving the people but is instead running a “shop of loot.” He said that the manner in which money is being extracted from the public through taxes and inflation reminds one of the East India Company era. Instead of reducing taxes on fuel to provide relief to ordinary citizens, the central government is focused on filling its own coffers.
He demanded that the central government immediately reduce the excessive taxes imposed on petrol and diesel and provide relief to the public from inflation. He added that the Congress Party has always raised its voice for the common people, farmers, labourers, and the middle class, and will continue to fight for the rights of the people in the future as well.
