Celebrating the golden harvest on the auspicious occasion of Vaisakhi, the Punjab Governor Sh Gulab Chand Kataria ceremoniously released a significant coffee table book “Wheat Fields of Punjab – The Spirit of Vaisakhi” at Punjab Lok Bhawan, Chandigarh.
The book has been authored by Mr Harpreet Sandhu, State Information Commissioner, Punjab and published by Dr TS Riar, Additional Director Communication, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), thus, adding academic depth and authenticity to the visual and thematic representation of wheat varieties and their relevance to the festival.
The Punjab Governor Sh Kataria acknowledged the dedicated efforts of Mr Sandhu in authoring the meaningful book, showcasing the true natural depth of Punjab’s wheat fields through his meticulous camera lens.”It reflects how the harvest season symbolizes prosperity, gratitude, and the vibrant spirit of the people of Punjab,” he added, while lauding joint venture of Mr Sandhu and PAU.
At the book release ceremony, Punjab Agriculture Minister Sardar Gurmeet Singh Khuddian and Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha Sardar Kultar Singh Sandhwan lauded the joint venture of Mr Sandhu and Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, in bringing out the colourful illustrations of wheat fields of Punjab, which deserved all the recognition as the state has been decorated with the prestigious title of “Bread Basket of India.”
Having played a prominent role in alleviating poverty and making country food secure, PAU and Punjab farmers have cultivated great appreciation across the globe for their yeoman’s service to the state and the country, they observed.
The book release ceremony was marked by a serene and spiritually uplifting atmosphere, with a Hazuri Ragi from the sacred Golden Temple rendering divine hymns, invoking blessings and adding a pious dimension to the occasion.
The event witnessed the gracious presence of eminent personalities from across Punjab and Chandigarh, making it a memorable and meaningful celebration of culture, agriculture, and tradition.
Expressing his sincere gratitude to the Punjab Governor for releasing the publication on the auspicious eve of the festival of Vaisakhi, Mr Sandhu said that the book beautifully captured the essence of Punjab’s agrarian heritage, highlighting the deep-rooted connection between the golden wheat fields, and the cultural and spiritual significance of Vaisakhi.
He also thanked PAU for extending full support in the compilation of the coffee table book, which presented a vivacious picturesque view of the wheat varieties, developed by the agri-varsity and cultivated on a large scale by the state farmers.
