Harmeet Singh Kalka, President of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), has written a letter to Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, urging immediate intervention to ensure uninterrupted supply of LPG cylinders to the historic Gurdwaras managed by the DSGMC.
In his letter, Kalka highlighted that the sacred tradition of langar—a free community kitchen serving meals to thousands of devotees and visitors daily—is an integral part of Sikh religious practice and is regularly conducted at all historic Gurdwaras under the management of the DSGMC.
He expressed concern that due to the prevailing global war-like situation, the supply of gas cylinders by local gas agencies has reportedly been stopped. As a result, the preparation and distribution of langar at these Gurdwaras are being adversely affected, creating difficulties in continuing this vital humanitarian service.
Kalka emphasized that langar is not merely a meal service but a centuries-old tradition symbolizing equality, service, and compassion. Any interruption in its functioning could affect thousands of devotees and visitors.
In view of the current circumstances, the DSGMC President has requested the Union Minister to kindly direct the concerned authorities and gas distribution agencies to ensure that the supply of LPG cylinders to the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee remains uninterrupted.
He further urged the Ministry to issue necessary instructions to the Delhi authorities so that the availability of gas cylinders is maintained without disruption and the Langar service at historic Gurdwaras continues smoothly without any hindrance.
