SGPC Jatha to Leave for Pakistan on June 21 for Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s Death Anniversary; 290 Devotees Granted Visas

A total of 290 Sikh pilgrims have been granted visas to travel to Pakistan for the annual observance of the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, organised at Gurdwara Sri Dera Sahib in Lahore.

The pilgrimage jatha, being coordinated by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), will depart from the SGPC headquarters in Amritsar on the morning of June 21.

Sharing details, SGPC Dharam Parchar Committee Secretary Gurinder Singh Mathrewal said that passports of 302 devotees had been submitted to the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi for visa processing. Out of these, 290 pilgrims received visas, while 12 applicants were denied clearance.

The pilgrims will participate in the religious programmes commemorating the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh at Gurdwara Sri Dera Sahib, Lahore, and will also visit several other historic Sikh shrines in Pakistan during the pilgrimage.

According to the schedule, the jatha will return to India on June 30 after attending the main anniversary events on June 29.

Mathrewal urged all approved pilgrims to collect their visa-stamped passports from the SGPC office on June 20 and June 21.

He further informed that visas were not granted to applicants bearing serial numbers 33, 66, 67, 68, 76, 131, 143, 144, 145, 151, 291 and 292.
