LPU hails its student Neeraj Chopra for securing Silver in Javelin throw at 2024 Paris Olympics

Neeraj Chopra, a standout Indian talent and pride of LPU, seized the silver medal in the men’s javelin throw event at the Paris 2024 Olympics. His outstanding throw of 89.45 meters exemplifies athletic excellence and dedication.

Lovely Professional University has announced a reward of ₹25 lakhs for Neeraj Chopra for bringing the silver medal to India. The university has also announced prize money of ₹10 lakhs each to the eight LPU students who were part of the historic Indian Hockey Team that clinched a second consecutive bronze medal at the Olympics.

The eight LPU students who were part of the Indian Hockey Team are: Captain Harmanpreet Singh, Hardik Singh, Shamsher Singh, Mandeep Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Manpreet Singh, Gurjant, and Jarmanpreet Singh. Led by the exemplary Captain Harmanpreet Singh, these talented LPU students played a crucial role in the team’s success.

In a heartwarming gesture, Lovely Professional University (LPU) has also announced a cash reward of ₹25 lakhs for its student Vinesh Phogat, despite her recent disqualification from the Paris Olympics 2024. The university had reserved the money for silver medallist winning students.

Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and founder Chancellor of LPU, Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, expressed profound pride in the students representing LPU on a global platform. Dr. Mittal extended his heartfelt congratulations to Neeraj Chopra and the Indian Hockey Team for their exceptional accomplishments.

He also shared that he hopes that even Vinesh Phogat may also get her due medal for which 1.44 billion people are hoping.

Recognising the efforts of all LPU students who demonstrated remarkable sportsmanship at the Olympics, Dr. Mittal emphasised that these victories not only embody the spirit of sportsmanship but also serve as a beacon of inspiration to aspiring athletes nationwide and LPU students.
