Jalandhar, September 17, 2024 (Yes Punjab News)
In a swift operation, Jalandhar Rural Police have solved a high-profile NRI kidnapping case, arresting two suspects involved in the abduction of Mohinder Singh.
The accused, Harjinder Singh alias Lali and Manjot Singh alias Jota, were apprehended from Nakodar and Amritsar, respectively. The Alto car used in the crime has also been recovered.
SSP Jalandhar Rural, Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh, revealed that on September 14, 2024, Mohinder Singh was abducted near Adda Kang Sahbu around 6:15 p.m. while on his way to a gurdwara.
The suspects orchestrated a rear-end collision with Mohinder Singh’s vehicle using an Alto car, forcibly pulling him out before kidnapping him. An FIR was immediately registered at Police Station Sadar Nakodar under serious kidnapping charges, with FIR No. 108, dated September 15, 2024.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by SP Manpreet Singh Dhillon and comprising DSP Nakodar Kulwinder Singh Virk, Inspector Pushap Bali (CIA Jalandhar Rural), and SHO Sadar Nakodar SI Baljinder Singh, was formed to investigate the case. CCTV footage, technical analysis, and witness testimonies helped identify the suspects.
The first breakthrough came on September 16, 2024, with the arrest of Harjinder Singh alias Lali in Nakodar. During interrogation, he revealed that the crime was motivated by greed and the desire for quick financial gain.
The second suspect, Manjot Singh alias Jota, was arrested on September 17, 2024, near Tarsikka in Amritsar district. Further investigation uncovered that the suspects had discarded Mohinder Singh’s mobile phone in a canal and disposed of their own phones elsewhere in an attempt to mislead the police.
During interrogation, the accused confessed that after abducting Mohinder Singh, when Mohinder recognized Manjot by his voice despite his face being covered, the suspects killed him with a sharp-edged weapon (datar) and threw his body into a canal on the outskirts of Moga. Police, in coordination with the Drainage Department and SDRF teams from PAP Jalandhar, are currently lowering the water levels of the canal to recover the body.
The recovery of the Alto car (PB-21-E-8888) used in the crime has further strengthened the case against the accused.
Efforts to recover Mohinder Singh’s body are ongoing, with search operations intensifying in the Moga area.
Both suspects will be presented in court, and police will seek remand for further investigation.
SSP Khakh warned that any other individuals found involved in the crime will face strict legal action. The investigation is ongoing, and further arrests are anticipated.
