Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government has initiated the “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign to eradicate drugs completely.
As part of this, the Jalandhar Rural Police, along with civil administrative officers, today vacated a room built on panchayati land in Ganna village, which falls under Sub-Division Phillaur. In addition, the encroachment made on the adjacent area of the room was also removed.
Providing further details, SSP (Jalandhar Rural) Harvinder Singh Virk said that there are three cases registered under the NDPS Act at Phillaur Police Station against the female drug smuggler Desho, wife of Kuldeep Kumar, resident of Ganna village. Besides, she has already been convicted.
The SSP added that the woman had encroached upon approximately 8 marlas of village land and had also constructed a room there.
He said the said room has been handed over to the Panchayat Department, and the illegal encroachment beside the room was removed under the supervision of SP (Headquarters) Parminder Singh Heer and DSP Phillaur Swaran Singh Bal by the Jalandhar Rural Police and BDPO Phillaur. This action was taken on the complaint of the Panchayat Department.
Mr. Virk reiterated the Punjab Government’s commitment to eradicate drugs under the “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign and said that the Jalandhar Rural Police will continue to take such actions against those involved in drug-related activities in the future as well.
He appealed to the public to provide any information related to drugs to the WhatsApp number 9779-100-200, assuring that the identity of the informant would be kept confidential. He assured that immediate and strict action would be taken against individuals involved in drug-related activities.
SP Parminder Singh Heer said that the illegally built room has been handed over to the Panchayat Department, which will convert it into a gym for the youth.
The Panchayat of Ganna village welcomed the action being taken by the Punjab Government against drug smugglers, stating that with the facility of the gym in the village, youth will stay away from drugs and be encouraged to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
