Ward No. 35 Councillor Harsharan Kaur Happy, who is also a member of four ad hoc committees of the Municipal Corporation, along with sports promoter Surinder Singh Bhapa, met Jalandhar Mayor Vineet Dhir and toured several parks in the ward to discuss measures for improving public recreational facilities.
During the visit, Councillor Happy thanked the Mayor for the recently constructed road from Mainbro Chowk to the T-Point on G.T.B. Road, describing it as a major convenience for local residents.
Happy and Bhapa also urged the Mayor to develop rubber-coated walking tracks in the parks of Ward No. 35 on the lines of those constructed at Burlton Park. They said such tracks would particularly benefit senior citizens, many of whom suffer from knee-related ailments, by providing a softer and safer surface for walking and exercise.
According to Councillor Happy, Mayor Vineet Dhir appreciated the proposal and assured them that it would be taken up for consideration. He reportedly asked them to prepare a cost estimate for the project so that it could be placed before the Municipal Corporation House for deliberation.
The Mayor also observed that Ward No. 35 has emerged as a centre of faith because it houses places of worship belonging to different religions. He said serving the residents of the ward gives him a special sense of satisfaction and motivation, and he remains committed to undertaking developmental works for the benefit of the people.
