Colonel Gurmeet Singh donated ₹5 lakh to JSS Asha Kiran Special School, Jahankhela, on the occasion of his birthday to support the welfare and education of specially-abled children.
Colonel Gurmeet Singh, who serves as Secretary of the Ashadeep Welfare Society, has been actively associated with initiatives for the welfare of special children. Over the years, several of his former colleagues from the Armed Forces have also joined the institution’s efforts and continue to contribute towards its charitable activities.
School Principal Shelly Sharma said Colonel Gurmeet Singh’s wife, Madhumeet Kaur, has also been consistently involved in serving special children. She is a member of the Donation for Good Cause organisation and also serves as a voluntary lecturer at the JSS Asha Kiran Teacher Training Institute.
The couple are themselves parents of a specially-abled child. In memory of their child, they instituted the Jasmeet Award of Excellence, which is presented annually on Teachers’ Day to recognise outstanding members of the Asha Kiran School staff with awards and cash prizes.
Expressing gratitude for the generous contribution, Ashadeep Welfare Society President Harbans Singh, along with Ram Asra, Paramjit Singh Sachdeva and Principal Shelly Sharma, thanked Colonel Gurmeet Singh for his continued support.
Speaking on the occasion, Colonel Gurmeet Singh said the dedicated service being rendered by the Ashadeep Welfare Society and the staff of Asha Kiran School towards special children inspired him and his family to relocate from Patiala to Hoshiarpur.
He said serving specially-abled children has now become the sole mission of their lives and assured that he and his family would continue extending every possible support to the cause in the future.
