Chhatbir Zoo School Club enrolls 4,850 Schools, Engages over 4.2 Lakh students in four Years

Chandigarh, June 10, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Reinforcing its role in conservation education, the Chhatbir Zoo School Club under the aegis of the Forests and Wildlife Preservation Department led by Mr. Lal Chand Kataruchak, has expanded to 4,850 member schools as of today, comprising 2,050 private and 2,800 government institutions across the region.

Over the last four academic years, the club has engaged a total of 4,21,079 students through guided tours, wildlife workshops, and eco-learning programs. Participation began with 83,049 students in 2022-23, surged to a peak of 1,37,011 students in 2023-24 marking a 65% year-on-year increase, and continued with 1,11,731 students in 2024-25.

In the ongoing academic year 2025-26, the club has already registered 89,288 students, maintaining a robust base despite the dip from the 2023-24 high.

The strong and near-equal representation from both government and private schools highlights broad-based commitment to experiential learning and environmental stewardship among students.

The School Club transforms zoos from places of recreation into living classrooms. With 4,850 schools now on board, efforts are to build the next generation of wildlife custodians.

The Chhatbir Zoo School Club provides member institutions with curriculum-linked activities, expert-led sessions, and hands-on nature camps throughout the year.
