Chandigarh, June 20, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)
Senior IPS officer Pushpendra Kumar has been appointed as the acting Director General of Police (DGP) for Chandigarh, according to an official notification from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. A 2006-batch officer from the AGMUT cadre, Kumar will hold the additional charge of DGP until further orders are issued.
This appointment fills the leadership vacuum created after the transfer of IPS Raj Kumar Singh to Delhi in April 2025. Singh, who was previously serving as both Inspector General (IG) and acting DGP of Chandigarh, had assumed the role following the departure of Surendra Yadav.
Pushpendra Kumar took over as Inspector General of Chandigarh Police in June 2025, following his transfer from Delhi. Before his Chandigarh posting, Kumar served as the Joint Commissioner of Police (Eastern Range) with the Delhi Police, and earlier, as Director in the Ministry of Defence in 2021. He is known for his robust administrative skills and operational expertise across diverse law enforcement roles.
His appointment comes during a period of active engagement in public outreach, notably marked by his leadership in organizing the “Drug Free India” Walkathon held on June 12, 2025, aimed at spreading awareness on drug abuse and rehabilitation.
With the Union Home Ministry entrusting him with dual responsibilities, Kumar now officially oversees both IG and DGP functions, ensuring continuity in Chandigarh’s police administration. A formal announcement regarding the permanent DGP appointment is expected in the coming weeks.
