BJP Punjab Announces ‘Jan Akrosh March’ to Protest AAP’s Stand on Women’s Reservation Bill

Chandigarh, April 24, 2026(Yes Punjab News)

Protesting the role of the Aam Aadmi Party in blocking the Women’s Reservation Bill by voting against the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha, women of Punjab will gherao the residence of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on April 25, the Bharatiya Janata Party Punjab unit announced in a statement.

The protest will begin from the BJP Punjab headquarters in Chandigarh and proceed towards the Chief Minister’s residence in the form of a “Jan Akrosh March.”

The march will be led by Working State President BJP Punjab Ashwani Sharma and former Union Minister Parneet Kaur. Prominent women leaders expected to participate include Jai Inder Kaur, State President, Mahila Morcha BJP Punjab; Mohinder Kaur Josh and Mona Jaiswal, both Vice Presidents of BJP Punjab; and Meenu Sethi, Vandana Sangwan, and Renu Thappar, all State Secretaries of BJP Punjab.

Sharma said that AAP leaders have repeatedly claimed to support women’s empowerment, yet their opposition to a constitutional amendment guaranteeing 33% reservation clearly exposes their political duplicity. He added that the Indian National Congress also had the opportunity to pass such a bill during its long tenure in power but failed to do so, and is now misleading the public with contradictory statements inside and outside Parliament.

He asserted that this behavior reflects sheer political opportunism, with both AAP and Congress indulging in vote-bank politics and showing reluctance to implement structural reforms that could challenge their internal power dynamics.

Sharma further stated that the opposition’s stance highlights their historical failure and lack of genuine commitment to women’s empowerment. While they publicly advocate for women’s rights, their actions reveal insecurity and fear of losing political ground in the face of the growing popularity of BJP’s pro-women initiatives.

He added that the people of Punjab and the country are politically aware and will not be misled by such hypocrisy, and that any party opposing women’s empowerment will be held accountable.

Reiterating the BJP’s commitment, Sharma said that the party remains fully dedicated to strengthening women’s representation and ensuring their equal participation in nation-building. He urged all political parties to rise above narrow political considerations and support progressive reforms in the true spirit of the Constitution.
