Amritsar, June 20, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Member of Parliament and President of the Punjab Volleyball Association, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, has strongly raised the issue of the alleged injustice meted out to Punjab’s emerging volleyball player Jaskaran Singh during a meeting with Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President Dr. P.T. Usha.
He also submitted a written representation expressing deep concern and disappointment over Jaskaran Singh’s exclusion from the Indian senior national team training camp and sought her personal intervention in the matter.
In his letter, Aujla pointed out that Jaskaran Singh, a resident of Amritsar, delivered an outstanding performance at the Senior National Volleyball Championship-2026 held in Varanasi and was adjudged the ‘Best Universal Player’ of the tournament.
Despite this achievement, he was not included in the Indian senior volleyball team camp, leading to disappointment and resentment among players, coaches, and volleyball enthusiasts.
Aujla stated that when players who have excelled at the highest national level are overlooked while others with comparatively lesser achievements continue to find a place in the selection process, it raises serious questions about transparency, fairness, and merit-based selection. He emphasized that talent and performance should remain the foremost criteria in sports and that no player should suffer injustice.
The Member of Parliament also highlighted another long-standing concern, saying that despite Punjab’s immense contribution to Indian volleyball through several national and international players, coaches, and experts, the state continues to receive inadequate representation in national selection committees, coaching structures, and administrative bodies.
He remarked that Punjab has always been one of the strongest pillars of Indian volleyball, and its continued exclusion from key decision-making forums is both unfortunate and difficult to justify.
Aujla urged IOA President Dr. P.T. Usha to ensure a fair review of Jaskaran Singh’s case so that merit, performance, and sporting excellence remain the sole criteria for national team selection. He also called for meaningful and adequate representation of Punjab in various national volleyball committees, selection panels, coaching structures, and administrative forums.
Expressing confidence that timely intervention would restore faith among players and stakeholders, Aujla said that such a step would further strengthen the principles of transparency, equal opportunity, and fairness in Indian sports administration. He added that Punjab has always brought pride to the nation and will continue to produce athletes who bring glory to India.
