Damdami Taksal Announces Sewak Jatha, Appoints Office-Bearers Across Punjab and Haryana – THE LIST

Chowk Mehta, July 22, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

In a significant organisational initiative, Damdami Taksal has constituted the ‘Damdami Taksal Sewak Jatha’ under the leadership of Sant Giani Harnam Singh Khalsa, Head of Damdami Taksal and President of the Sant Samaj, with the stated objective of strengthening Sikh religious propagation, addressing social challenges and safeguarding Panthic interests.

Announcing the formation of the new body, Sant Giani Harnam Singh Khalsa said the Sewak Jatha would focus on promoting Sikhism in accordance with Gurmat principles, reconnecting the younger generation with Gurbani, Sikh philosophy and history, combating the menace of drug abuse in Punjab, and creating awareness against religious conversions.

Focus on Religious, Social and Panthic Issues

According to Sant Giani Harnam Singh Khalsa, the organisation will work through constitutional and democratic means to raise important Panthic issues before appropriate forums. He said the Sewak Jatha would also strive to uphold the dignity of Sikh institutions, strengthen Gurdwara management, safeguard Punjab’s interests, promote communal harmony and lasting peace, and conduct awareness campaigns against forces attempting to mislead society, particularly the youth.

He said the Sikh Panth today faces several serious religious, social and ideological challenges, including drug addiction, incidents of religious conversion, the growing disconnect of youth from their spiritual roots and the politicisation of Panthic issues. The Sewak Jatha, he said, has been constituted to provide a disciplined and service-oriented platform to address these concerns.

Sant Giani Harnam Singh Khalsa further said the organisation would be willing to work with any individual or body sincerely committed to the welfare of the Sikh Panth, Punjab, social harmony, humanitarian service and national unity.

Organisational Expansion Across Punjab and Haryana

Along with the announcement, Sant Giani Harnam Singh Khalsa named office-bearers for various organisational units across Punjab and Haryana.

Jathedar Gurmeet Singh has been appointed Legal and Media Advisor for Punjab and Haryana, while Kuldeep Singh Talokewala has been named President, Haryana. Baba Gurjant Singh has been appointed Vice-President, Haryana and Chairman, Dharam Prachar, and Bhai Tarlochan Singh Nabha Sahib has been named President, Chandigarh.

For the Malwa Zone, Atma Singh has been appointed President, Bhai Jasnoor Singh Vice-President, and Gurtej Singh Press Secretary.

The organisation also announced district presidents for Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Bathinda, Sangrur, Moga, Barnala, Malerkotla, Fazilka, Ferozepur, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Rupnagar, Faridkot, Fatehgarh Sahib, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Patiala, Mohali, Mansa, Sardulgarh, Jaito and Fatiabad, besides several constituency- and block-level appointments.

Broader Significance

Damdami Taksal has historically played an influential role in Sikh religious affairs and public discourse in Punjab. Against this backdrop, the formation of the Sewak Jatha is being viewed in Panthic circles as an important organisational development.

Observers believe that with an expanding grassroots organisational network and its declared focus on Panthic and social issues, the Sewak Jatha could emerge as a significant platform for religious and social engagement in the state.

Congratulating the newly appointed office-bearers, Sant Giani Harnam Singh Khalsa urged them to discharge their responsibilities with dedication, discipline and selfless service in keeping with Sikh traditions. He expressed confidence that the Sewak Jatha would strengthen the propagation of Sikh teachings, reconnect youth with Sikh values and contribute to the welfare of the Sikh Panth and Punjab.
