Punjab Govt Extends Financial Assistance of Rs. 1.70-Cr to 4,056 Pregnant and Lactating Women: MLA Jeevan Jyot Kaur

Amritsar, July 23, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

MLA from Amritsar East, Mrs. Jeevan Jyot Kaur, said that under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is continuously implementing people-centric welfare initiatives to ensure the well-being of women and safeguard maternal and child health.

She stated that, as part of these efforts, financial assistance amounting to Rs. 1.70 crore has been provided to 4,056 pregnant and lactating women across the state during the current financial year.

Sharing details of the scheme, MLA Jeevan Jyot Kaur said that eligible women receive financial assistance of Rs. 5,000 for the birth of their first child. The amount is released in two instalments—Rs. 3,000 as the first instalment and Rs. 2,000 as the second.

She further informed that in the case of the second child, if the newborn is a girl, financial assistance of Rs. 6,000 is provided in a single instalment. The assistance is transferred directly into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, ensuring transparency and timely disbursement.

The MLA further stated that 36,154 eligible women have been registered under the scheme so far during the financial year 2026-27. She said these figures reflect the Punjab Government’s commitment to ensuring that the benefits of welfare schemes reach every eligible beneficiary.

Jeevan Jyot Kaur said that the scheme is not merely a financial assistance programme but also an important initiative aimed at improving maternal health, nutrition and the care of newborn children. She added that the Mann Government is committed to ensuring that no mother is deprived of essential healthcare services due to financial constraints and that every child receives a safe and healthy start to life.

Reiterating the Punjab Government’s commitment to the welfare of women and children, the MLA said that ensuring the effective implementation of welfare schemes and extending their benefits to every deserving family remains the government’s highest priority.
