The Food Safety Department today collected five samples of mustard oil from a processing unit on Zira Road after the team found oil being packed in unhygienic conditions, including the presence of pigeon droppings in the packaging area.
During a routine inspection, the team observed poor sanitation, cobwebs and accumulated pigeon droppings at the premises where mustard oil was being filled and packed. Taking serious note of the violations, officials collected five samples of mustard oil and sent them for laboratory testing.
Food Safety Officer Abhinav Khosla said the unit was operating without maintaining the minimum hygiene standards required for food handling and packaging. He said the presence of pigeon droppings in the packaging area could pose a serious risk to consumer health.
The department has directed the unit operator to undertake a complete cleanliness drive and ensure compliance with food safety norms within one week. Officials warned that strict action would be taken if violations persist during future inspections.
Khosla reiterated that manufacturing, packaging, or selling food products under unhygienic conditions is prohibited under the Food Safety and Standards Act and appealed to food business operators to strictly follow prescribed safety and sanitation standards.
