Punjab is already unable to fully raise its voice due to minority in both the houses of the country’s parliament, at that time population-based delimitation will further weaken the representation of the state. These words were expressed by Giani Harpreet Singh, President of Shiromani Akali Dal (Revived) through a written press statement.
He said that if population is made the only criterion, then are the states that control the population being punished for this? Whereas the states were encouraged by the center itself for this. After the neglect in the economic packages, now Punjab will also be pushed through delimitation.
He said that the demand of Shiromani Akali Dal (Revived) as a regional party is that all the states get equal representation in the Rajya Sabha, so that the voice of every state can be raised equally in both the houses.
Giani Harpreet Singh appealed to all political parties and MPs of the country, including all MPs from Punjab, to come together to save the true soul of democracy and strongly oppose this population-based delimitation.
