RPF Explosive Detection Dog ‘Anex’ Recovers After Life-Saving Dialysis at GADVASU

Ludhiana, 07 October, 2024 (Yes Punjab News)

In a heartwarming tale of dedication and Veterinary Medical Prowess, ‘Anex,’ a Railway Protection Force (RPF) Explosive Detection dog, has made a remarkable recovery after suffering from pancreatitis and an acute kidney injury.

Anex, who serves on the front lines as a dog squad member at Chandigarh railway station under Northern Railways ensuring public safety, fell critically ill and was rushed to the Dialysis Unit, Multi-Specialty Veterinary Hospital, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University.

Anex was diagnosed with pancreatitis, a painful and potentially life-threatening inflammation of the pancreas, compounded by acute kidney injury that severely affected his ability to function. His deteriorating condition called for immediate intervention, and the veterinary team at the dialysis unit initiated dialysis to manage the kidney injury.

Under the expert care of the veterinary specialists of the Dialysis unit, Anex responded well to the treatment. The dialysis procedures, along with a tailored medical regimen, helped stabilize his condition, and the dog is now on the road to recovery.

Dr. Randhir Singh, Dialysis expert and in-charge of the dialysis unit along with other team members Dr. Rajsukhbir Singh, Dr. Gurpreet Singh and Dr. Sachin expressed joy at seeing their efforts pay off, particularly as Anex is a crucial member of the RPF, assisting in the detection of explosives and ensuring the safety of passengers across the railway network.

Dr. Swaran Singh Randhawa, Director of Clinics said that since establishment of this unit in 2020 numerous lives have been saved. Dr. SPS Ghuman, Dean, College of Veterinary Science told that the Dialysis Unit of Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex has again proven that it is best in India when it comes to providing specialised extracorporeal renal replacement therapy.

Dr. JPS Gill, Vice-chancellor congratulated the team of dialysis unit and told that this is the only Veterinary dialysis unit of north-India where people bring their pets suffering from renal failure not only from Punjab but also from states like JK UT, HP, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, UP and Uttrakhand. Previously also, this unit saved the life of a BSF border protection dog ‘Tyson’.

The officials from RPF thanked the dialysis unit team for their dedication and expertise, noting that Anex has been an invaluable asset to the force.
