Punjab Guv Kataria Honours 22 Personalities with ‘Disha Indian Award – Pride of Nation’

Connecting girls from ordinary homes with some work is a great act of merit. I have not come across such an idea till now which has empowered even the girls who do the work of sweeping and mopping in the houses. The means of distributing bicycles to girls to reach work quickly may be small but the spirit of trust is big.

These words were expressed by Mr. Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Punjab, while addressing the audience during the fifth Disha Indian Award ceremony organized by Disha Women Welfare Trust, Reg. Punjab under the leadership of Trust President Kaur, while praising the work of the Trust.

Senior leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party Avinash Rai Khanna, Sardar Satnam Singh Sandhu, Member of Rajya Sabha, Padma Shri awardee Sardar Jagjit Singh Dardi and Sargun Kaur, Director of Manohar Company were present as special guests in this program. Speaking further, the Governor of Punjab said that even the society does not understand the pain of acid attack victims.

It is sad that our society has completely destroyed the dignity of women. He said that I thank Dr. Ambedkar, who along with the independence of the country gave women the right to vote.

On this occasion, former Rajya Sabha member Avinash Rai Khanna emphasized on women empowerment by giving the example of a college started in his constituency. Along with this, Rajya Sabha member Satnam Singh Sandhu said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought about so much change in the entire country that the thinking of society towards women has changed.

It is worth mentioning that Disha Trust honored 22 personalities who have contributed in different fields of society.

The names of the personalities to be honored include Dr. Harshinder Kaur, Mandeep Kaur Tangra, Balvir Kaur Rai Koti, Dr. Bhanu Saluja, Jagjit Kaur Kahlon, Kanchan Bedi, Dr. Rajinder Singh, Subhash Goyal, Professor Khush Dhaliwal, Nisha Bano, Bibi Satwant Kaur Johal, wrestler Purvi and social worker Ravi Sharma.

Journalists including Desh Bhagat University also honored

On this occasion, Desh Bhagat University received the award of Best University of North India. While senior journalists Harpreet Singh Dardi, Tarlochan Singh, Simranjot Singh Makkar, and female journalist Akanksha Saxena received the Fourth Pillar of Democracy Disha Indian Award.

It is worth mentioning that for the last five years, Disha Trust has been running the Disha Employment Campaign to empower the daughters of Punjab. During the fifth Disha Indian Awards ceremony organized by the trust, this program also gave a message of financial empowerment to women.
