The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his visit to Punjab, accusing him of avoiding key public issues and instead attempting to mislead the people of the state through what it termed “false narratives” and political rhetoric.
The party alleged that rather than responding to serious questions concerning the alleged Shri Ram Mandir donation scam, repeated drug seizures at Gujarat’s Mundra Port and the Centre’s pending financial dues to Punjab, the Prime Minister chose to lecture Punjabis on honesty.
AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, in a post on X, remarked that “the country’s biggest leader of those who stole donations collected for the Shri Ram Mandir has come to Punjab to preach honesty,” while asserting that the Prime Minister should first answer questions regarding the alleged misuse of temple donations.
Echoing the same sentiment, the party stated that before delivering lectures on integrity, the Prime Minister must explain the allegations surrounding the Shri Ram Mandir donation collections and address concerns that continue to be raised by the opposition.
Responding to the Prime Minister’s remarks on Punjab’s drug problem, AAP shifted the focus to repeated narcotics recoveries at Gujarat’s Mundra Port. The party questioned how massive consignments of drugs repeatedly entered the country through the port and accused the BJP of attempting to divert public attention instead of providing answers.
AAP also referred to previous explanations allegedly offered by BJP leaders regarding missing narcotics, claiming that the country had even heard “bizarre excuses” that drugs had been eaten by rats. The party maintained that before targeting Punjab over drugs, the BJP should first account for the repeated recoveries made through Gujarat.
AAP Punjab State Media In-charge Baltej Pannu also rejected the Prime Minister’s appeal for a “double-engine government” in Punjab, saying the state had already experienced such a model between 2014 and 2017.
Pannu alleged that the period witnessed the worst spread of the drug menace, popularly referred to as “chitta,” besides a sharp rise in gangster activity. He further claimed that individuals associated with the then government themselves faced allegations relating to drug trafficking, asserting that the BJP could not erase that record through political speeches.
Referring to the Prime Minister’s comments on Punjab’s financial condition, Pannu said the Centre had deliberately ignored its own outstanding liabilities towards the state.
According to him, nearly ₹50,000 crore payable to Punjab remains pending, including flood relief assistance and dues under the Rural Development Fund (RDF). Instead of announcing the release of Punjab’s legitimate financial entitlements, the Prime Minister chose to make misleading statements regarding the state’s debt burden, he alleged.
Concluding its criticism, AAP accused the Prime Minister of repeatedly relying on misinformation during election campaigns across different states. The party asserted that while such political messaging may succeed elsewhere, the people of Punjab were fully aware of the facts and would not be influenced by what it described as politics based on falsehoods.
