Chandigarh, January 13, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
The District Education Office has extended winter vacations and revised school timings in all schools across the Union Territory till January 17, 2026, citing prevailing adverse weather conditions.
According to an official order issued by the District Education Officer (Establishment Branch), the extension applies to all Government, Government-Aided, and Recognised Private Schools in Chandigarh. The decision has been taken in continuation of earlier orders dated January 3 and January 9, 2026.
The order further clarifies that the same schedule and instructions outlined in the January 3 notification will continue to remain in force during the extended period. Schools will therefore follow the existing directions without any change until January 17.
The order, dated January 12, 2026, directs all school heads to ensure strict compliance. Copies of the directive have been forwarded to the Director of School Education, Chandigarh Administration, and heads of all government and aided schools for necessary action.
Education department officials said the move was necessitated due to persistent cold weather conditions, keeping in mind the health and safety of students. Any further decision regarding reopening or additional extension will be communicated separately, depending on weather conditions.
