MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla has written a detailed letter to the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, expressing serious concerns over the increasing traffic problems on the Amritsar Bypass leading to Airport Road (NH-1). Aujla stated that this route has now become a cause of daily heavy traffic jams, safety risks, and growing inconvenience for the public.
He demanded the approval of a long continuous flyover over the entire stretch to provide a permanent solution to the city of Amritsar. In his letter, MP Aujla explained that the situation on the Amritsar Bypass can no longer be managed by ordinary traffic arrangements.
The number of passengers traveling to the airport is increasing day by day. The Sri Guru Ram Dass Ji International Airport is an important hub not only for Punjab but also for the neighboring states. Therefore, there is always heavy passenger and tourist movement on this route. Moreover, Aujla mentioned that this bypass is a major route for heavy vehicles, container trucks, and commercial transport. The security forces traveling towards the Attari border also use this road, adding to the traffic pressure.
Additionally, several large schools are located in this area, where around 10-15 thousand children commute daily. The traffic jams cause delays and continuous safety risks for them. Considering these conditions, MP Aujla has demanded that a continuous flyover be approved starting from Gumtala, passing through In & Out Bakery, the petrol pump turn, connecting with the new flyover at Loharka Road, and extending up to Royal Nursery Point. This will allow the main traffic to flow above while local traffic can move safely underneath. This will significantly reduce accidents, ambulance delays, and regular traffic jams. Aujla appealed to the central minister to direct the NH-1 project director to immediately inspect the site and prepare a detailed project report (DPR). He expressed hope that the ministry will take prompt and positive action on this important demand.
