Lathi-charge on Students and Use of Police Force Against Rahul Gandhi and Congress MPs Condemnable: Balwinder Dhaliwal

Chandigarh, July 21, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Former IAS officer and MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal stated that despite the concerns of millions of students and their families across the country over the NEET paper leak case, the Central Government’s silence is deeply unfortunate.

He said that when students were raising their voices to demand justice and safeguard their future, the government failed to take their concerns seriously. Instead, the Delhi Police reportedly used tear gas and resorted to lathi-charge against the protesting students, which is highly condemnable.

He further said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Congress Members of Parliament were peacefully and democratically seeking answers on behalf of the students outside the residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, the Delhi Police allegedly manhandled them and took them into custody. He described this as an attack on democracy. Rather than remaining silent, the Central Government should clearly inform the nation about the action taken against those responsible for the paper leak and the concrete measures being implemented to prevent such incidents in the future.

Dhaliwal said that in a democracy, it is the responsibility of the Opposition to seek accountability from the government. If obstacles are created in effectively raising questions inside Parliament, and those demanding answers outside are also ignored, it is not in keeping with healthy democratic traditions.

Questions over the credibility of an important examination system such as NEET affect the morale of millions of hardworking students. In such cases, the government’s foremost priority should be to ensure strict punishment for those responsible and restore public confidence in the examination system. The Congress Party will always stand with students, youth, and democratic values.
