The Delhi Police on Tuesday said that no participant in the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)‘s Parliament march remained under detention, hours after the party alleged that hundreds of protesters had been taken into custody following Monday’s demonstration.
The clarification came after the CJP had announced plans to stage a protest outside the Delhi Police Headquarters at 8 pm, demanding the release of its supporters.
In an official statement, Delhi Police said, “It is clarified that no person is currently under detention,” while urging people not to share or circulate unverified information on social media.
CJP Initially Alleged Hundreds Were Detained
Earlier in the day, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das, in a post on X, alleged that Delhi Police had detained hundreds of “peaceful protesters” after using what he described as “brute, borderline-lethal force” during the protest.
He also claimed that lawyers representing the party were initially not being allowed to meet those detained or obtain a complete list of detainees.
Party Later Says All Detainees Released
However, in a subsequent post on X, Das said the party’s legal team had informed its leadership that all detained protesters had been released.
“Our lawyers have just told us that all the detainees have been released. The dharna outside Delhi Police HQ is therefore called off. Everyone is requested to maintain peace,” the post said.
Following the announcement, the CJP withdrew its proposed protest outside the Delhi Police Headquarters.
The developments came amid heightened political tensions following Monday’s Parliament march and the subsequent police action against protesters.
