In a major push toward environmental sustainability, Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan today planted fruit trees within the Punjab Vidhan Sabha complex.
Speaking on the occasion, Speaker Sandhwan disclosed that more than 40 trees have been planted within the Punjab Vidhan Sabha premises so far. He emphasized that this green initiative is an ongoing process and the plantation drive will continue in the future.
“If we love nature, nature will reflect that love back to us,” Speaker Sandhwan stated. He underlined the critical importance of regular plantation in contemporary times, asserting that the hour has come to collectively work toward a ‘Green Punjab’.
The Speaker further added that fostering a sustainable environment is the dire need of the hour. By planting more trees today, future generations and centuries to come will remain protected under a healthier ecosystem.
A powerful appeal was made today to the people of Punjab to launch a massive environmental movement, drawing deep spiritual inspiration from the core teachings of Gurbani and the historic path shown by the Sikh Gurus. True divinity resides within nature. Every human, animal, plant, and tree is a living manifestation of the house of Almighty.
Expressing deep concern over the state’s shrinking ecology, Punjab’s forest area has critically depleted to less than 3%, demanding immediate collective intervention. He added that lack of greenery and vegetation correlates with a rise in societal vices, which ultimately destroys peace and happines. Valuing and preserving nature ensures divine mercy, prosperity, and blessings for the entire community.
Sandhwan said we need to take guidance from Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji who actively planted gardens and nurtured the ecosystem. If we want to make Punjab vibrant and colorful again, we must first make it a Green Punjab.
Let us unite to plant trees wherever and whenever we get an opportunity.He urged to all Punjabis to honor their traditional values of nature. Punjabis can ensure a sustainable environment where nature thrives and future generations prosper by aggressively expanding the trees cover.
