Vijeta Dahiya Removed as CJP Spokesperson After Viral Burger Controversy

New Delhi, July 21, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Tuesday removed its spokesperson Vijeta Dahiya after videos purportedly showing him at a burger outlet during the party’s protest in Delhi went viral on social media, triggering widespread criticism.

In a statement, the party described Dahiya’s conduct as “deeply insensitive” and said his actions were inconsistent with the principles of the movement at a time when party members and supporters were allegedly facing police action.

“We strongly condemn the deeply insensitive actions of our spokesperson Vijeta Dahiya, whose videos surfaced while peaceful protesters and our team were facing brutal police violence. Such conduct is unacceptable, shows a complete lack of judgment, and is wholly inconsistent with the values and principles of our movement,” the party said.

Viral Burger Video Triggers Controversy

The controversy erupted after a video circulating on social media appeared to show Dahiya, a political researcher and filmmaker, at a popular burger outlet inside a Delhi mall while the CJP’s protest was underway on Monday.

Another video showed a group confronting him at the restaurant and questioning why he was eating a burger instead of standing alongside protesters.

The timing of the videos and the circumstances in which they were recorded could not be independently verified.

Dahiya Defends Himself

Responding to the criticism through a video posted on social media, Dahiya said he had actively participated in the protest march and left only after it had concluded.

Explaining his visit to the restaurant, he said he had not slept for two nights while working for the movement and had gone home to freshen up before stopping for food because he was hungry.

He maintained that there was nothing inappropriate about eating a burger after participating in the demonstration.

However, in the caption accompanying his Instagram video, Dahiya claimed he ultimately chose not to eat the burger because he believed it contained refined flour and trans fats, opting to eat elsewhere instead.

He also asserted that he was participating in the movement voluntarily and was not being paid for his involvement.

Previous Social Media Criticism

The latest controversy is not the first involving Dahiya. He had previously faced criticism on social media over remarks relating to transgender people and comments suggesting that most women are “not political.”

Protest Continues

The action against Dahiya comes as the CJP continues its protest at Jantar Mantar, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged examination irregularities and repeated question paper leaks.

The party’s agitation intensified after police detained several protesters and used force during Monday’s march towards Parliament, an incident that has fuelled a fresh political confrontation between the Opposition and the Central Government.
